Now that we’ve hopefully given you some peace of mind, let’s get to the list of mistakes you’ll want to avoid when bringing out your favourite styling tool.

  • Using a flat iron on damp hair. Using a flat iron or curling tongs on damp hair can cause major damage. You can burn your hair, even if you have added heat protection. Blowdry your hair so that it is completely dry before you get started.

    • Using heat stylers when your hair is not clean. Using flat irons or other tools on dirty or even second-day hair will press the build-up of product or sebum into your hair. This will make it harder to style and leave your hair looking and feeling dull. Always style after washing and drying your hair.

    • Using tools on the wrong heat setting. Using a high heat setting on fine hair can cause your hair to dry out. It can also cause breakage and damage. Using high heat on curls can cause frizz. Use a cooler setting to play it safe.

    • Using heat stylers on damaged hair. Using heat stylers on damaged or stressed hair will cause a lot of damage. In some cases, the damage can be irreversible. Your hair needs a break from styling when it’s already under stress.

Now that you know what not to do, you can easily avoid these heat styling mistakes and nurture your hair with nourishing Pureology products.
